My name is Greg Burt and I am the founder and president of Veritas Consulting, LLC. I started this company because of my interest in good government and the vital place that truth plays in the healthy functioning of our Constitutional Republic. The future of our country relies on the wisdom of the voters, but how can voters make wise choices if they are uninformed. Despite the growth in the number of news sources over the past decade, with the explosion of the Internet, many instances of elected official power abuse, corruption, and government waste go unreported.
Part of the problem is that traditional news outlets no longer allocate the resources needed to do in-depth investigative journalism because of budget cuts. And most Internet news blogs only comment on stories collected by the traditional media, as opposed to generating their own news content. Consequently, there are fewer people doing real reporting. This is a problem, but it's also an opportunity, which I plan to take advantage of with this new company.
I got bit by the journalism bug back in 1992 when I had the unique opportunity to travel on a journalism internship with my alma-mater to cover some historic events occurring in Eastern Europe after the collapse of Communism. I wrote stories about Estonia's struggle with its new found freedom from the Soviet Union; Czechoslovakia's decision to separate into two countries; and Croatia's fight to fend off an invasion and ethic cleaning from Serbia's President Slobadan Milosevic.
Although I already had a degree in Communication Arts, this journalism trip inspired me to return to graduate school and study journalism and government at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. After graduating in 1997 with two masters degrees, I came out to Colorado with my wife and landed a job with a community newspaper in Brighton, Colorado. I covered local government and crime, and after a few years won several press awards for investigative journalism and editorial writing.
I got out of the journalism business for a bit so I could make enough money to start a family. I did business writing and graphic design for the marketing department of financial corporation in Denver, before getting back involved in public life, this time on the government side. I ran congressional offices for Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave in northern Colorado for four years. The biggest part of my job was that of problem solver. Constituents would come to our office with desperate issues needing our help. I acted as their advocate, getting them meetings with the right people; calling people I knew in government who could solve their issue. I also coordinated events for the congresswoman with an eye for good press coverage, spoke on her behalf at community gatherings, and developed relationships within the community. For more details about my responsibilities see my resume link to the right.
I currently live in the Denver Metro area with my wife and three kids.
